In case you renew the Flash Up Tool and the Firmware for CRD-R800S, Please review the following notice carefully and observe them strictly. If you fail to observe them, the problem may occur.

1. Notice about the firmware's renewal for CRD-R800S
2. The way to solve the miss-match between the WinFlash for CRD-R800S and ASPI (WinAspi32.DLL)
3. The download of the required files for the ASPI's renewal

• To renew the firmware, we recommend you install the record mastering software (Adaptec Easy CD Creator) first before starting the renewal. The record mastering software will renew the system file (Device driver or DLL) with proper version which is required by the renewal program.
  (In some cases, the renewal of the firmware may be available even though the record mastering software is not installed. In case you can not renew the firmware, please install the record mastering software first. Then, retry the renewal.)
• In case you do not have an Adaptec Easy CD Creator, please obtain the ASPI renewal file from Adaptec's Web site. (The ASPI's renewal will be available for the only person who is using Adaptec's SCSI board.) We recommend Adaptec SCSI board (AHA-2940XX series) for the Windows Firmware renewal tool.
• We are now preparing the MS-DOS version's firmware renewal program for CRD-R800S. Please wait for a while.

1. Explanation
   In case you can not work WinFlash correctly with the following error message after starting the WinFlash.exe, please try the following way.

   Root cause

   When you start the WinFlash, "the message which is 4.01 or higher's ASPI is needed" will be indicated. This error message is caused by the following cases.

   1. The version of Wnaspi32.dll which is installed in Windows9x/NT4.0x might be old.
   2. Wnaspi32.dll is not installed in Windows9x/NT4.0x.

   In addition to that, it is neccessary that the version of each file which makes ASPI should be same for the renewal of ASPI.

   How to check the version of files

   Please download the following file (Aspichk.exe) into your PC from Adaptec's home page and check the each file's version by using the following file.
   (The each file name for check : WNASPI32.DLL, WINASPI.DLL, APIX.VXD and ASPIENUM.VXD)

   The way of download

   4-1. Please download the Windows 95/98/NT 4.0 ASPI32.EXE file, from Adaptec's home page.

   4-2. After the download, please click the aspi 32 file twice. Then, The Adaptec ASPI Upgrade will appear. Then, please click "Yes".

   

   4-3. Please click the Upgrade button in the picture of Adaptec Upgrade Wizard.

   

   4-4. The following message will appear after finishing the Adaptec Upgrade Wizard.

   

   4-5. After finishing the above procedure, please confirm the version of each file by using the following Aspichk.exe. (The each file name for check : WNASPI32.DLL, WINASPI.DLL, APIX.VXD and ASPIENUM.VXD)
